It was widely reported in the local media that a 12 year old Troy boy killed on Saturday evening, when he was hit by a car on Coolidge near Golfview, had just ran away from home. Several reports indicated the boy may have run in front of the vehicle on purpose. Apparently this is not the case.

Sean Taglione, a Boulan Park Middle School student, died early Sunday morning, about six hours after the accident. Taglione was autistic and had wandered away from his home on Roxbury in Troy. Police were called and as they were looking for Sean they came upon the accident.

Witnesses told police the boy ran in front of a Volvo driven by a 44 year old Royal Oak man. The driver of the vehicle was not injured. A preliminary investigation by the South Oakland County Crash Investigation Team, comprised of Troy, Auburn Hills and Bloomfield Township police officers, appears to show that speed, alcohol or drugs were not factors in the crash.

“This is clearly not a situation involving a youth purposefully running away from home, as might be the case in a situation involving incorrigibility” police stated in a press release.

“It is not a situation involving a pedestrian purposefully running in front of traffic. Investigators have learned at times individuals with autism may wander, this appears to have been the case here.”
